Are You Interested in OOTA?

If you’ve ever dreamed of protecting wildlife while swapping stories, sharing laughs, and enjoying a little high-desert adventure, then the Order of the Antelope (OOTA) might just be your kind of herd.

Founded in 1932, OOTA brings together folks who care deeply about conservation — and who don’t mind getting a little dusty in the process. Each year, members make the legendary Trek to Hart Mountain, rolling up their sleeves to help preserve one of Oregon’s most stunning wild places. From funding wildlife surveys and student scholarships to planting trees and removing old fencing, Antelopers put in the work that keeps the mountain — and its pronghorn — thriving.

But let’s be honest: it’s not all work. OOTA is also about friendship, laughter, and the occasional “refreshment” after a hard day’s effort. Members like to keep things light and often refer to themselves affectionately as jackasses — a nod to the good-natured, roll-with-it attitude that keeps our group strong year after year. Because while our jokes might be corny and our boots might be muddy, our hearts are fully committed to the cause.

Membership is by invitation only, and joining the Order means becoming part of a tradition that’s equal parts purpose and play — a community that takes conservation seriously but never forgets how to have a good time doing it.

So if you’re ready to make a difference, enjoy great company, and add a little adventure to your life, we’d love to hear from you. The mountain’s calling — and the herd’s always got room for one more.
